A Bright and Timeless Commercial Lobby Refresh

In today’s competitive marketplace, the experience a building owner creates can be a major differentiator to attract strong credit tenants. Recognizing the need for a fresh first impression, KBS and JLL engaged Elsy Studios to reimagine the 1,800-square-foot lobby of Village Center Station, a Class A office building in Greenwood Village. The renovation needed to be quick and cost-effective with limited disruption to existing tenants.

Having collaborated with KBS on previous projects, we understood their desire for an elegant, timeless aesthetic in their buildings. Working with existing features in the lobby, our design team drew on hospitality-inspired elements to maximize usability and visual interest.

Colorful sculptural art by Tommy Moss serves as the main focal point and helps bring movement into the space. New furniture groupings lit by elegant glass chandeliers create inviting areas for impromptu meetings. Large light pillars were replaced with sculptural planters, bringing the outside in. Updated paint and wallcovering pops against the existing dark wood paneling and millwork. New carpeting further complements the existing terrazzo flooring and its distinctive color scheme. The result is an efficient, impactful design that will stand the test of time.

A Corporate Office Goes Boho

For Adswerve’s new 12,188-square-foot office space located at 999 18th Street in downtown Denver, we delivered a design that reflects the technology marketing company’s forward-thinking and dynamic culture in a vibrant, welcoming space.

Adswerve wanted their new office to reflect their relaxed culture and innovative business model in an engaging and comfortable space for their team members. Elsy seamlessly incorporated a contemporary bohemian style to create a space that looks both professional and playful. Throughout the project, the design team implemented strategic elements that served to soften the standard ‘tech company’ aesthetic and reinforce the uniqueness of Adswerve’s culture. Bright colors blend seamlessly with ‘worn’-looking textures including rough sawn, reclaimed wood and cork board walls, in order to achieve a natural, harmonious balance. Layering contrasting textures, colors and finishes with Adswerve’s current brand standards, we created a homey and bright workplace that inspires creativity and innovation.

A Flexible, Modern Headquarters with Fresh Branding to Match

For their new headquarters on the top floor of the newly built 5050 S. Syracuse building in the Denver Tech Center, YES Communities, a driving force behind affordable manufactured housing communities throughout the country, sought a flexible design that would reflect and support their culture while reinforcing their recently refreshed branding.

Throughout the design, we incorporated subtle nods to the company’s core business – from ceiling baffles reminiscent of the pitch of a residential roof to a collaboration area anchored by a sculptural tree, complete with swings, that evokes one of the company’s neighborhood playgrounds.

The result is an engaging and inspiring environment that communicates the YES Communities values while providing them with the functionality and flexibility they need to continue to grow.

INFUSING BRAND INTO THE WORKPLACE

A Virginia-based company dedicated to providing sustainable energy, AES Corporation has a strong national brand rooted in collaboration, growth and forward thinking. When they asked the Elsy team to design their 25,838-square-foot office in Louisville, we made it our mission to deliver a space that celebrated their brand and values while integrating a local feel that created a unique sense of place.

The result is a design that is highly sustainable and cohesive. Many materials were reused, truly embodying AES’ commitment to sustainability. Elsy also maximized AES’ brand expression throughout their space with touches of green and blue from their logo, a one-of-a-kind table made of solar panels, and Colorado-inspired artwork.

Located in an old industrial warehouse, Elsy warmed up the space with a welcoming look and feel. To that end, the design team used Solar Tubes to optimize sustainable natural daylight. This solution not only creates a light and bright look and feel, it is also energy-efficient and reduces environmental CO2 emissions.

Layering a cohesive color palette, strategic lighting, biophilia, and unique furniture pieces, Elsy delivered a space infused with the AES branding that supports its local culture.

EMBODYING A PASSION FOR GREAT DESIGN IN A SKY-HIGH HEADQUARTERS

Global real estate investment, development and management firm Hines sought Elsy’s expertise when they decided to move their Denver headquarters to 1144 Fifteenth Street in Denver. This building was the first high-rise office development in Denver in more than 30 years. Hines developed and owns the 40-story Class AA office tower, which was completed in 2018. Located on the 36th floor, Hines’ new local headquarters houses both the company’s development and property management teams.

Elsy Studios had worked with Hines in several previous developments and understood their passion for exceptional design. We created a headquarters that highlights the best features of the building, while supporting Hines’ business objectives and enhancing their company culture.

The design maximized the impact of 10-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows with offices placed along the exterior, offering sweeping views of downtown Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Glass fronts throughout the interior kept the space light and bright. Detailing on the interior glass was inspired by the lines of the exterior glass mullions, which evolved into a design statement that ensured the interior felt connected to the core and shell. The two wings of the space were anchored by a central hub with a large conference room and stylish break room, providing ample opportunities for employee connection.

HARNESSING THE TRANSFORMATIVE POTENTIAL OF ADAPTIVE REUSE

For this award-winning project, we collaborated with Hyder Construction to transform a dilapidated old warehouse in Denver into a new headquarters for their team. Together, we collaborated on a design that supports their culture, celebrates their craft and preserves the unique sense of place that comes with working in a historic building.

A large open stair creates connection and promotes circulation through the building, positioned with the best view to connect employees to nature and encourage use throughout the day. To maintain a sense of character and place, we kept a number of rugged mainstays original to the building, such as the exposed brick and ghost signs from legacy businesses that told a story of industry that resonated strongly with Hyder’s culture.

New and historic construction techniques were brought to the forefront throughout the design, subtly reinforcing Hyder’s trade. All of these diverse elements were pulled together with a cohesive color palette, finishes, a unique soffit detail and decorative light fixtures throughout the space. The resulting design was recognized with the 2019 Mayor’s Design Award in the “Back to the Future” category and was a 2019 finalist for Engineering News Record’s Project of the Year for the Western Region.

BLENDING HISTORIC CHARM WITH FORWARD-THINKING DESIGN

The team at Ortho-Fi had outgrown their current space, which had them split between floors. Together, we landed on a unique opportunity for the forward-thinking tech company: an old Ford Model-T assembly plant with a rich history in Denver. Our design blends the early 1900s warehouse-style architecture and history with OrthoFi’s modern branding to create a fun, flexible environment with a strong sense of place.

Working on the first floor of a 106-year-old building proved a significant design challenge. Through extensive, yet careful demolition, we met the high-density programming requirements without losing the charm of the historic space.

We designed 1,600-square-foot “Town Hall” space with stadium seating to accommodate the company’s 200 employees. To make this space a draw for employees, Elsy’s design deliberately kept workstations simple. By providing a variety of areas in which to work, the design encourages collaboration and empowers employees to choose the work environment that best suits their needs.

“Resi-mercial” areas close to employee workstations with coffee, games and adult beverages provide opportunities for employees to connect and recharge. The end result is a space that both celebrates the historic character of the building and exemplifies OrthoFi’s innovative culture.

SUPPORTING ATTRACTION & RETENTION WITH A DYNAMIC, COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT

A rising national cybersecurity company with offices across the country, Coalfire was looking to expand their office footprint to accommodate their growing Denver workforce. The goal was to create a dynamic and collaborative environment with fun, interactive elements that would help differentiate the company in the competition for top talent.

Elsy worked closely with Coalfire’s leadership team on a phased approach for this occupied remodel. Through an expertly managed and highly collaborative process, Elsy was able to execute the project with minimal disruption to the business. The design features a creative use of color and light as well as an inventive use of the new corporate branding to reinforce Coalfire’s identity throughout the space. Updating the color palette in the office and lobby area brings in views and daylight, providing a more vibrant office atmosphere. Geometric flooring adds a sense of playfulness to public and gathering areas.

In the work areas, acoustic screening helps control sound, providing a better environment for concentration, while comfortable furniture offers flexibility for employees seeking alternative workspace options. The resulting design gives Coalfire the engaging, collaboration-based workspace they sought while conveying a more compelling brand identity.

CELEBRATING INNOVATION AND SUPPORTING WELLNESS IN A VIBRANT EXPERIENTIAL SPACE

The opportunity to renovate the interior of a neoclassical revival building of this quality in Colorado is rare. Elsy Studios jumped at the chance to juxtapose the neoclassical backdrop against a free-flowing, modern interior space that would become a hub for Liberty Media’s innovative culture, inspiring employees and attracting the next generation of talent.

One of the biggest challenges on the project was the design and implementation of three 15-foot exterior mechanically operated doors that not only blend with the modern interior, but complement the neoclassical architecture.

Through close collaboration with the client, the original building architect, development planning, engineers, and our contractor, we were able to deliver a completely customized solution that is both elegant and contextual.

What was previously an unused wing of the building is now its experiential center, alive with new activities including a renovated café, a cutting-edge audio/visual center, the Liberty library, an inviting living room, game area, yoga studio, bar and lounge area, and employee gym. The result is a highly sustainable, flexible and forward-looking space that supports employee wellbeing and provides an inspiring environment in which to work.

TRANSFORMING A TRADITIONAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE WITH BOLD & CLEVER DESIGN

As a successful accounting firm, Anton Collins Mitchell LLP (ACM) wanted to show their employees some much-deserved appreciation for their hard work by creating a fun, vibrant space everyone could enjoy. Elsy Studios worked closely with the leadership team to design an office that maximizes space by merging decorative and functional elements in creative ways.

Balancing the needs of a multi-generational workforce, the 26,479-square-foot office includes a strategic mix of interior offices and workstations with access to ample natural light.

Each workstation includes a whiteboard, monitor arm, wall with organizational tools and sit-to-stand work surfaces. A large multifunctional breakroom accommodates a variety of seating as well as plenty of space for the firm’s frequently catered meals.

An abacus both represents ACM’s work and provides the focal point for the reception area, capturing the imagination of employees and visitors alike while seamlessly blending into the overall design for the space. Cleverly crafted to hide the catering bar located directly behind it, frosted glass serves as the backdrop to the abacus, allowing sunlight to filter through to brighten the reception area. Elsy carefully collaborated with the contractor, millworker, signage vendor and client to achieve the custom piece. The resulting design creates a truly Class A environment.
