TAKING A TRAINING & PHYSICAL THERAPY FACILITY TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Transforming a dated office space in Golden into a dynamic physical therapy and sports training facility for Next Level was a true team effort. Designed for motivation and collaboration, Next Level’s facility features an energetic, bold infusion of color and shape, along with thoughtful programming that maximizes the usability of their state-of-the-art equipment.

The owner’s history as an NFL athletic trainer and the company’s culture of investing in their athletes’ success both factored heavily into the personalization of the space. The neutral color palette provides the ideal backdrop for flags that will be raised in the space to honor athletes who complete their training with Next Level – a ritual that started years ago with a Navy athlete who was able to keep her scholarship as a result of training with Next Level.

A custom ceiling element constructed of reclaimed trailer decking and painted wood slats adds visual interest, along with zigzags of blue and orange across the walls. Graphic film and motivational words throughout the space serve as visual encouragement to Next Level’s athletes. Air quality and ventilation are addressed with programmed operable windows that support an infusion of fresh air throughout the day.

The resulting space raises the bar for Next Level’s brand and creates an ideal environment for both their athletes and trainers.

Colorado-inspired Design for a Cause

Developing the first and only shared workspace for Colorado healthcare nonprofits was a labor of love for our team. Inspired by Healthier Colorado’s mission to elevate the wellbeing of Coloradoans, our team sought to create a space that paid tribute to our home state while providing a cohesive, flexible workspace that invited engagement and collaboration among the varied nonprofits who will call the workplace home.

We divided the 22,481-square-foot space into distinct areas identified by Colorado’s landscapes. The elevator lobby instantly welcomes you with elements of their office culture. A large mural of Denver’s skyline signals their urban location. Ceiling features are extracted and oversized elements of their logo; mountain peaks and a large illuminated drywall arrow creatively draw people into the space. The vibrancy doesn’t stop there. The existing oversized columns throughout the office celebrate the cultural and physical qualities of different regions of the state. We evoked the warmth of southwest Colorado with earth tones, a Rocky Mountain feel with blues, and a nod to Colorado’s agricultural tradition with greens and yellows. All of the graffiti seen through-out the space is one of a kind, curated through a collaboration with a local artist, Tuke One, and graphics/branding agency Make West.

The shared commitment of these nonprofits to elevating the health of all Coloradoans is reinforced and supported at every turn in the Health Capitol project, while allowing each individual group working within the space to feel like its area is distinct, creating a sense of place and connection. Health Capitol calls the space a beacon to attract needed attention to the critical work their nonprofits perform.

CREATING A HAVEN FOR EMPLOYEES

Colorado-based Weaver and Co. was founded on the idea of making a common medical procedure more comfortable for patients, an idea that is rooted in caring about people. When founder Dave Weaver decided to upgrade his existing office space, he wanted to provide his employees with a comfortable, inspiring place where they’d enjoy spending time.

Dave turned to Elsy to help him make over his 8,750-square-foot space in Aurora, and the team set to work, transforming their previously dark and dated warehouse into a bright and welcoming experience, taking input directly from the employees who would use the space. Scandinavian-inspired wood tones and form are bathed in light, cheerful colors, warming up the industrial feel of the space. In a nod to the company’s branding, the office incorporates shades of Weaver blue in each office.

The space further makes use of existing concrete floors, with strategic incorporation of a carpeting and area rugs. We were also able to take advantage of Dave’s personal art collection, displaying his savvy as a long-time collector and adding a personal touch to the office.

BLENDING CONTEXT AND CULTURE IN A VIBRANT PLACE

When Virginia-based AvalonBay Communities asked Elsy Studios to create a cohesive, brand-driven design for its new space on the 10th floor of the Class AAA 50Fifty office tower in the Denver Tech Center, we were thrilled to take on this challenge. With a respected presence on the East and West coasts, the company wanted its 7,000-square-foot Denver space to feel distinct from its other offices.

Elsy worked closely with AvalonBay’s local team to understand how they like to work and what they need to be successful, creating a plan to support their business and reinforce their brand. Then we infused the design with a distinctly Colorado feel that celebrates Denver’s diverse and vibrant culture.

Inspired by AvalonBay’s mission statement, Creating A Better Way To Live, we designed a collaborative environment that not only promotes employee productivity, but communicates their values.

Warm, natural colors and materials to reflect the outdoorsy vibe and diverse terrain that make Colorado such a great place to live and work while eye-catching architectural features on the floors, walls and ceilings further embrace Denver’s vivid culture.

A Welcoming Office Ready for Collaboration and Entertaining

For their 26th floor office at 1144 Fifteenth Street – Denver’s newest skyscraper – Chicago-based wealth management firm Cresset Capital sought a flexible design that would help them do what they do best: build strong working relationships with their clients.

Floor-to-ceiling glass throughout the office reveals expansive mountain views and subtly reinforces the firm’s own focus on transparency. Black wall coverings are contrasted with clean, white marble floors and white ceilings to create a stunning visual impact throughout the space.

Upon entering the space, we created a variety of welcoming meeting and collaboration environments where clients and employees can relax and have candid conversations. To provide acoustical privacy between the collaborative spaces and the heads-down areas, we built acoustical walls from floor to ceiling. The Cresset Capital office needed to function as both a comfortable work environment and an entertaining space for clients. In response, we created a stylish and flexible break and dining area that are perfect for receptions with a servery discreetly hidden to the side for catering needs.

The result is a space that meets the needs of both employees and clients while showcasing Cresset Capital’s brand and core values.

Design that Lets Art Shine for Bonfils-Stanton Foundation

In 2018, Elsy Studios had the privilege of collaborating with Hyder Construction to transform an abandoned warehouse in Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District into a modern headquarters for their firm. We were thrilled to once again partner with them on the design and construction of the ground floor of that space, creating a new headquarters for the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.

The Foundation’s goal is to enrich Denver’s cultural life and landscape and increase cultural participation, so we knew that art would take a center stage in their new location. Our goal was to maximize the impact of the 13 permanent art installations and a series of rotating pieces throughout the design of the 2,764-square-foot office and event space.

Our design team sought to maintain the exposed brick, concrete walls and wood ceilings that reflected the industrial character and history of the space. These harder elements are balanced with natural materials, natural lighting and residential-feeling furniture. Neutral tones and timeless finishes provide the ideal backdrop for highlighting the Foundation’s impressive collection. Highly flexible programming allows the space to be sectioned off in several ways to allow the Foundation’s team to host a variety of audiences. The result is a true celebration of the local culture and Bonfils-Stanton’s community-facing mission.

A Bright and Timeless Commercial Lobby Refresh

In today’s competitive marketplace, the experience a building owner creates can be a major differentiator to attract strong credit tenants. Recognizing the need for a fresh first impression, KBS and JLL engaged Elsy Studios to reimagine the 1,800-square-foot lobby of Village Center Station, a Class A office building in Greenwood Village. The renovation needed to be quick and cost-effective with limited disruption to existing tenants.

Having collaborated with KBS on previous projects, we understood their desire for an elegant, timeless aesthetic in their buildings. Working with existing features in the lobby, our design team drew on hospitality-inspired elements to maximize usability and visual interest.

Colorful sculptural art by Tommy Moss serves as the main focal point and helps bring movement into the space. New furniture groupings lit by elegant glass chandeliers create inviting areas for impromptu meetings. Large light pillars were replaced with sculptural planters, bringing the outside in. Updated paint and wallcovering pops against the existing dark wood paneling and millwork. New carpeting further complements the existing terrazzo flooring and its distinctive color scheme. The result is an efficient, impactful design that will stand the test of time.

A High-End Experience for a National Medical Spa’s New Denver Offices

For the new Cherry Creek North offices of Elite Body Sculpture, Elsy Studios was enlisted to design a space that would convey the polish, professionalism and discretion associated with the national medical spa brand.

Thoughtful integration of Room and Board artwork, furnishings, specialty lighting, and accessories create a high-end feel while cool stone and tile, juxtaposed with warm metals and soft, plush fabrics, achieve a clean, modern and inviting aesthetic throughout the offices. Careful space planning further supports the desired level of privacy in both service areas and access points.

In addition to design considerations, Elsy facilitated coordination with the Cherry Creek North Design Advisory Board for the first-generation space. Elsy helped navigate and overcome timing and equipment challenges to meet the project management team’s opening goals for the space.

The result is a stunning space that allows Elite Body Sculpture to put its best face forward for its introduction to the upscale Denver market.

A Corporate Office Goes Boho

For Adswerve’s new 12,188-square-foot office space located at 999 18th Street in downtown Denver, we delivered a design that reflects the technology marketing company’s forward-thinking and dynamic culture in a vibrant, welcoming space.

Adswerve wanted their new office to reflect their relaxed culture and innovative business model in an engaging and comfortable space for their team members. Elsy seamlessly incorporated a contemporary bohemian style to create a space that looks both professional and playful. Throughout the project, the design team implemented strategic elements that served to soften the standard ‘tech company’ aesthetic and reinforce the uniqueness of Adswerve’s culture. Bright colors blend seamlessly with ‘worn’-looking textures including rough sawn, reclaimed wood and cork board walls, in order to achieve a natural, harmonious balance. Layering contrasting textures, colors and finishes with Adswerve’s current brand standards, we created a homey and bright workplace that inspires creativity and innovation.

REIMAGINING A CORPORATE LOBBY AS A COMPELLING AMENITY SPACE

Elsy reimagined the lobby of this prominent 12-story office building in Denver’s bustling Cherry Creek, creating a striking, modern design to appeal to current and future tenants. Working together with D.R.A. Advisors and M&J Wilkow, we delivered a polished professional space with a decidedly fun vibe.

Driven by our client’s goal to transform the traditional corporate lobby into an exciting and memorable place for tenants to gather, we activated the ground-floor lobby and adjacent spaces with flexible, multi-purpose environments, including a 50-person meeting and event space and a smaller meeting room for tenant use. A dramatic fireplace – the signature element and focal point in the space – beckons tenants inside to the expanded café area, complete with new booths and soft seating to provide the perfect place to gather. Throughout the space, a sophisticated mix of polished details and industrial elements are accented by shades of blue and pops of chartreuse to create depth and visual interest. As tenants and guests make their way to the elevators, up-lighting highlights a unique wall covering applied to the ceiling, creating an unexpected moment of joy before heading into the office.

Once largely a pass-through space, since completion, the redesigned lobby has become a destination for tenants and an attractive selling point for new tenants.
